How It Works & About Me
Before you book, you probably want to know a bit more about who I am, how I work, and what to expect. That's exactly what this page is for.

A Bit About Andy
I'm Andy Mitchell, and I understand recovery from the inside. My own path through addiction into long-term recovery shapes everything about how I work. This isn't just a profession for me, it's deeply personal.
When we work together, you're sitting with someone who genuinely gets it, not only through years of professional training, but through real, lived experience. Our sessions are a space where honesty is welcome, judgement doesn't exist, and the focus is entirely on you.
Recovery coaching is a confidential, collaborative relationship. Your goals take centre stage. Together we build trust, develop practical strategies, and strengthen the emotional resilience you need to navigate whatever comes next.
I work with people at every stage, whether you're just starting to question things, navigating early recovery, feeling stuck after years of progress, or simply wanting fresh energy in your long-term journey. You'll get practical tools and genuine support from someone who's properly in your corner.
British/Singaporean and German, I split my time between the UK and Germany (ich spreche Deutsch). I hold an MSc in the field of Occupational Therapy, a Diploma in Addiction Therapy, and over 10 years' experience as a therapist with a homeless persons charity. I also volunteer for SMART Recovery, facilitating online meetings globally.
What to Expect
You can send me a message or book directly online. There's no pressure, if you're not sure what to say, that's completely fine. Most people aren't.
All sessions are via Zoom, I'll send you the link. It's relaxed, confidential, and friendly. You'll have the chance to ask anything, and we'll start to explore what you want to work on.
There's no fixed programme you have to follow. We'll agree goals together and move forward step by step. Some people come weekly, others fortnightly, it's entirely up to you.
No commitment required. You're not signing up for a course or a contract. If after one session you feel it's not right, that's absolutely okay. My goal is to help, not to keep you as a long-term client.
Every person's journey is unique. Here are some of the areas I work on with clients, tailored to wherever you are right now.
Your Privacy Matters
I know that reaching out takes courage. You might be worried about who finds out, or what happens with the things you share. So let me be clear: our sessions are completely confidential, one-to-one, and delivered online from wherever you feel comfortable.
We'll agree clear boundaries from the start, and you'll always know what to expect. No surprises.
I follow the Addiction Professionals code of ethics, that means clear boundaries, informed consent, and your wellbeing at the centre of every decision. I'm also committed to ongoing supervision and continuing professional development, so the support you receive stays current and evidence-based.

Credentials That Matter
You deserve to know that the person supporting you has real training behind them. I bring 14+ years of one-to-one and group facilitation experience, an MSc in the field of Occupational Therapy, and ongoing professional development focused on addiction recovery.
When you're choosing recovery support, look for credentials, accreditation, and professional membership, not just personal stories or bold claims. Be wary of anyone offering an “enlightened” approach that can't be explained clearly or checked independently.
You can verify my credentials through trusted platforms like Welldoing.org, Harley Therapy, and Psychology Today, each of which has its own vetting process.
The Approach
My approach draws on SMART Recovery, occupational therapy, and established addiction behaviour science. In plain terms: we'll work on managing urges, challenging unhelpful thinking patterns, and building a balanced life beyond addiction. You'll leave each session with clear, practical actions you can use straight away.
This is a secular approach, not 12-step. You're welcome whether you have religious beliefs, no beliefs, or you're still figuring that out. There's no judgement either way.
One of the strengths of the SMART model is that your recovery doesn't depend solely on our sessions. You can attend SMART meetings independently, and there are free online resources, including a handbook, to support you between sessions.
“My job isn't to keep you as a client. It's to help you build a strong, sustainable recovery so you can move on with your life.”Andy Mitchell, MSc
